Leni Riefenstahl Links

Below are selected links to other web pages/sites about Leni Riefenstahl. Please note that...

  • The emphasis on this page is on sites that are either in English or German, however, sites in other languages can be found in the Foreign Language Sites section at the end of this page;

Major Fan Sites

The sites in this category incorporate much of the information which is included in the subsequent site categories, plus many more photos, etc.  After Leni's own official site, above, these sites (listed in alphabetical order) could be regarded as primary sources for information about her:

Leni in the News

For recent English-language news items which have appeared on-line, see LeNiews — Leni Riefenstahl in the News (updated regularly on this site!).

For additional news, see also Patrick Zarate's page/section at...

Biographies

There are so many, many short biographies of Leni Riefenstahl available on the internet that it's relatively pointless to provide a listing of them all, particularly in light of the fact that the vast majority of them provide little information about her life and career beyond the short period that she did work for the NSDAP (not to mention that they frequently contain glaring errors — and very often the same, oft-repeated errors). See also the Major Fan Sites section, above.

Downloadable Audio

  • Don Carlos: "Der Triumph"
Not directly related to Leni, but this is a musical piece by Don Carlos which is described as "...a surrealistic Mix of avantgarde music. It is with a part of Leni Riefenstahl's 'Olympia - Fest der Schönheit, Fest der Freuden.'" More accurately, however, it intersperses excerpts from Triumph, not Olympia — it's odd that they made that error in the description, although they were certainly accurate in describing it as "surrealistic" and "avantgarde"!
  • NPR: Weekend Edition for Sunday, April 28, 2002: Leni Riefenstahl
A recent interview with Leni, discussing in part her work on Triumph.
  • Leni Riefenstahl's Tinder Box
Downloadable MP3 of the song by J. Church.
  • Online NewsHour: Hitler's Filmmaker - September 9, 2003
An interview with Leni, by Claudia Koonz from the History Department at Duke University (includes both downloadable audio and a transcript).

Downloadable Video

In addition to the many videos available in the Downloads section of Leni's Rising Star, other videos featuring Leni can be found at the following sites.

  • Designboom
Features a short video clip from a 1998 press conference with Leni.
  • Filmdokumente 1933-1945
Features a clip from Olympia, with some narration added (in German) — unfortunately included in a sampling of Nazi-era film clips, however, the scenes chosen are largely those in which Hitler appeared.
  • Leni Riefenstahl (Director)
Resources for a Stanford University course, includes video from Triumph.

Critiques & Reviews (General)

Below are analyses, critiques and reviews relating to Leni Riefenstahl's films, career and/or life of a more general nature. For articles specifically relating to particular films, see the Analysis & Criticism and/or Web Links sections of the pages on this site for those films.

Microfilm

  • Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will
This microfilm collection available from the Library of Congress is described as follows: "Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will) records the Nazi party congress in Nurnberg in 1934, and as a visual spectacle for propaganda has won worldwide fame. This one-reel microfilm collection provides a historical context within which to view and study the movie. It includes transcripts of the American Army interrogation of Leni Riefenstahl in 1945, the complete Riefenstahl file from the Berlin Documents Center, documentation on other films she made, personal and official correspondence, a genealogy of Riefenstahl, and newspaper clippings. In German and English."
  • Leni Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will"
The same collection as above, however this site provides a little more detail as to what is contained in the collection.
