The LEN‑E Discussion List

The LEN‑E Discussion List is a forum for friends and fans — or even critics! — of Leni Riefenstahl, for students, educators and hobbyists in the fields of Film Studies, Photography, SCUBA Diving, Mountain Climbing, and for any other interested persons, to exchange thoughts and ideas about Leni's work throughout her life, to explore historical and/or biographical aspects of her life, to share news and information about upcoming events — or whatever other topics might arise! In this latter regard, while the main focus of the list is generally specific to the stated topc (the life and career of Leni Riefenstahl), prospective list members should note that occasionally subjects for discussion might also include more general topics such as early German film, WWII history, etc.

Posting messages on the LEN‑E list is optional (of course) for list members, and for those who wish to remain silent and simply observe, rest assured that the e-mail addresses of members will remain private and accessible only by the list administrator. Further, members are guaranteed that the membership list will never be given out, sold to, or shared with any third party.

While this list is essentially unmoderated, and list members are all presumed to be mature adults who will conduct themselves accordingly and not digress into needless "flame wars", etc., there are just a few strict rules which list members are expected to adhere to...

  • Firstly, there are naturally various aspects of Leni Riefenstahl's life and work which are historically controversial; while discussion, exploration and/or clarification of these details are certainly welcome, under no circumstances will presumptuous, uninformed, gratuitous trashing be permitted. This is not to say, of course, that list members are not allowed to offer up personal opinions and critiques of any aspects of her work, however, this is a public forum and slanderous and/or libellous remarks will not be tolerated, and any list members violating this very simple, straightforward and all-around mutually respectful rule will be banned from the list without notice.
  • Similarly, while discussion of Leni Riefenstahl's films for the National Socialist Party is also only natural and inevitable, the promotion of Nazi, neo-Nazi and/or other racist or hate-mongering sentiments of any sort will also not be tolerated.
  • While list members are encouraged to inform the list of essays, books, films, etc. which they may have completed or are working on, and offer up such notices either as "news" or for the list's perusal and/or critique, this is not a "spam" list and, as such, this is not a forum for advertising personal items for sale (for example, items put up for auction on eBay, etc.).
  • Lastly, list members who choose to post to the list are expected to maintain a reasonable level of "netiquette" (with regard to trimming quoted portions of messages, keeping the subject heading relevant, etc.) and should be aware that this is strictly enforced, with any repeatedly transgressing members quickly having their privilege for posting set to "moderated" (which, of course, can just as quickly be rescinded once the offending behaviour ceases). For reference, please see...

...and last but not least — and perhaps most appropriately for our forum ;) — the following reference...

With that said, we warmly and enthusiastically invite you to come join in our discussion which — with Leni Riefenstahl's life having been as varied, far-reaching and productive as it has — we can easily assure you will be a continually fascinating topic for exploration, a subject of great historical interest and significance, and all surrounding one of the most influential artists and intriguing personalities of this past century.
