Das blaue LichtPlot SpoilerAfter their day's hard work, the town erupts in celebration, but there is no celebration for the innkeeper who has just lost his son, nor is there any for Junta as she climbs the mountain again. Upon her ascent, she discovers pieces of crystal which had been dropped by the villagers, and rushing to the grotto she finds it now empty. The crystals are gone — and Junta's dreams are shattered, too. She stumbles outside, and with one small crystal she begins to climb higher, but in her despair she lets go and sorrowfully plunges to her death. The film ends with Vigo finding her body at the bottom of the mountain, and the scene then fades back to the present (1930s) time, where we see the young couple once again reading the final page to the Historia della Junta. The book is closed, and they go to the window and gaze out at the mountain in ponderance of the legend of Junta, the crystals, and the dream of the blue light. [Note: in the re-edited 1951 version of the film, the end shows the final shots of the book, but without showing the anonymous young couple.] |
