Die weiße Hölle vom Piz Palü

The third night looms, and now Ernst Udet hears the news of his friends' plight. He immediately sets off to help in the search for them, and still the rescue team searches for them, too, but now the trio are beginning to lose their sanity in the freezing cold. Hans, in his delerium, attempts to leap off the ledge, but Maria and Krafft overwhelm him and tie him up for his own safety.

Day breaks, and after searching all over the mountainsides in his plane, Udet finally finds the location of his friends. He tries to drop supplies to them, but unfortunately without success; however, he is able to point out their location to the Spring and the rescue team who are still on the mountain. Finally there is hope, but rescue is still many hours away. Hans begins to freeze to death, and Krafft gives him his coat in order to save him. Knowing that he is now doomed, Krafft crawls off on his own — just as the rescue team is nearing. The young couple are ultimately saved and received in joyous celebration back at the town down below, but the tragic Dr. Krafft has now joined his wife in death, encased in his own tomb of ice.
